A little over a year ago I walked into Chocollazo for the first time and I thought I had walked into my own version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Admittedly, my first order took a while. Thankfully Mary Collazo, the owner of Chocollazo, was patient as I wavered in every chocolate decision. Finally deciding on the S’mores Brownie Sundae, I never looked back.
You can say Mary did the same. What started off as an idea on a drive home from her corporate job more than 6 years ago has gone from a food truck which opened in 2013 to brick and mortar locations at Lackland Air Force Base and in Alamo Heights.
Over the past year, I have gotten to know Mary (and her family) and her personality comes through everything she creates. Her truffles come in traditional flavors but also in fun, colorful flavors and designs like caramel buddha chocolate or bacon German Chocolate. But Chocolloza is more than a truffle shop. They also have treats like Nutella silk pie, chocolate fondue, Choklava (chocolate baklava), and giant macarons. Or try a Chocuterie (yes, that is a chocolate charcuterie board) or their crepes that are served every Saturday. Honestly, if there is a chocolate flavor combo that you crave Chocollazo probably has it. So the next time you have a chocolate craving Chocollazo has you covered.
