CommonWealth Coffeehouse & Bakery opened its first location on Davis Street in January 2015 and has since added satellite locations inside two Baptist Health Care System hospitals and a second full coffeehouse and bakery at Hemisphere Park in December 2016. The owners Jose Ramon Campos and Jorge Herrero are working on opening more locations including one inside Weston Centre, as well as a 4,200 square foot commissary and roaster near San Antonio College.
Both the Davis St and Hemisphere Park locations are decorated in vintage decor with a French flair. With marble table-tops, casual seating, raised plant beds, and a henhouse these locations offer a cozy, at-home atmosphere. It is a great place to eat, work, study, or just hang out with friends.
CommonWealth offers a menu of coffee classics, French pastries that includes croissants, pain au chocolat, and croissant aux amandes, daily breakfast and lunch items, and a weekend brunch that includes crepes and molletes. They take great efforts in incorporating local ingredients into their menu items.
CommonWealth offers nod to the European cafe experience with its French pastry chefs and chocolate, espresso from Italy, and floor tiles imported from Spain. It is on my list of top 5 coffee shops in San Antonio.
