Sangria on the Burg has become a local San Antonio favorite. From $2 taco Tuesday, weekend brunch and of course some of the best sangria flights. I was actually a bit late to the party as my first visit wasn’t until the August 2017 Restaurant Week but once I arrived I stayed and Sangria has become one of my favorites also.
Despite being located in an unassuming strip center, Sangria is anything but. Sangria is known for its Texas BBQ, smoked meats, Mexican spices, and sangrias flights. And while Sangria’s menu may appear limited don’t be confused — the flavor of the food is not. Each dish (and drink) is layered with flavors that are purposeful and often unique. The menu includes a selection of sliders, tacos, salads as well as add-ons. All of their bread items are from a one of my favorite local bakeries, the Bread Box. Weekend brunch includes items such as pancake tacos, chicken and French toast, and flights of mimosas. I think the French toast is the best I have ever eaten. I can only explain it as being somewhere between a churro and the cinnamon toast I would eat as a child -the cinnamon sugar on this French toast is to caramelized to create a sweet crust.
Ceasar Zepeda has worked in other San Antonio restaurants over the years including our favorites such as Biga on the Banks, La Fonda on Main, and Acenar. Sangria on the Burg, however, is all his! I am always impressed with the creative combinations he dreams up. Seriously, pancakes with queso?
